Borgo Antico Le Viole is a fascinating architectural complex, nestled in a context of historical, natural, and scenic interest. Built on an alluvial plain created at the confluence of two rivers, the Rio Viole and the Tresinaro River, it likely owes its name to that humble flower—the violet—that in spring perfumes the wooded hills surrounding it.
Situated on green hills, a short distance from the cities of Reggio Emilia and Modena, it is an enchanting place that evokes harmony and serenity. The central nucleus – once a monastery – is the oldest (1600) and comprises a large longitudinal stone house with two front entrances. Around it is a series of buildings, once stables and barns, which formed a small courtyard inhabited by several peasant families dedicated to working the fields and raising livestock.
Along the entrance avenue, a small oratory dedicated to Saint Peter, built in 1722 and still consecrated, ensured that the families living in the valley could attend religious services. At the end of the 19th century, a significant dairy production was added to the traditional agricultural activities, as evidenced by the size of the dairy, built in the early 1900s, and the presence of the cheesemaker's home.
Over the centuries, the village has undergone several changes of ownership while retaining its rural character. Since 2002, descendants of the Bursi family, owners since the 19th century, have undertaken a significant renovation project, under the guidance of architects experienced in the conservative restoration of buildings and the design of parks and gardens.
The rooms, once used as stables and barns, have become elegant halls for parties and receptions, while the old dairy, now called the Music Room, has become a refined hall with a trussed ceiling, intended for convivial moments, concerts and dancing.
Today, Borgo Antico Le Viole hosts wedding ceremonies and banquets, solidarity events, cultural events, concerts, shows, graduation parties, and birthday parties.
